Fluke News available online and by mail

EVERETT, Wash. – The latest industry newsletters from Fluke Corporation, the global leader in portable electronic test and measurement technology, are now available through the Fluke Web site and by subscription.

The three publications are designed to give industry professionals information they can use on the job, and show how to put Fluke instruments to work. Newsletters are written for electricians and electrical contractors, plant engineering and maintenance professionals and heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration (HVAC) and indoor air quality contractors, weatherization professionals and facilities maintenance personnel.

Fluke Electrical News leads with the story of how technicians use Fluke instruments to maintain the early warning system at a dam five miles from Manhattan, Kan. – and 12 miles from a seismic fault zone. Other stories in the current issue detail the use of infrared windows to increase safety of thermal inspections, how to make energy audits produce results, and how to put the new Fluke 233 Detachable Display Multimeter to work for convenience and safety.

The new issue of Fluke Plant News includes a cover story on how technicians maintain the custom-built machinery at canvas finisher Martin Corporation. Also in this issue:  how high-resolution Fluke thermal imagers enhance troubleshooting, how to reduce the operational cost of compressed air systems, and how using the frequency function on a multimeter keeps a cushion foam manufacturer bouncing along.

Fluke HVAC/IAQ News takes readers to the Zero Energy Idea House, where Fluke thermal imagers and a blower door test track down the last few energy losses. Also in this issue:  how HVAC technicians locate carbon monoxide problems, how to troubleshoot controls without disconnecting wires, and getting to the root of HVAC power problems.

All Fluke newsletters are available for free on the Fluke newsletter home page. To subscribe to the print edition and receive a print copy, click on “subscribe to the next print editions” at the bottom of the page.

Probes, lead wires and junctions withstand entire temperature range

EVERETT, Wash. – The Hart Scientific Division of Fluke Corporation has introduced new full immersion platinum resistance thermometer (PRT) probes designed to perform in extreme environments.

The Hart Scientific 5606 and 5607 Full Immersion PRTs are designed to perform in “full immersion” applications where both the transition junction and the lead wires must withstand temperatures covering the entire operating range of the probe. Such applications can include calibration or validation of sensors used in laboratory or bio freezers, walk-in refrigerators, autoclaves, ovens, stability test chambers, furnaces or incubators.

The Hart Scientific 5606 has a temperature range of -200 °C to 160 °C, while the 5607 has a range of  0 °C to 450 °C.

The 5606 is only 2 inches (50 mm) in length with a sheath diameter of 1/8 inch (3.1 mm). Since it can be fully immersed over its entire temperature range, users need not worry about calculating minimum immersion depth and can immerse the entire probe, transition junction, and lead wires in either non-corrosive liquids or dry mediums.

The lead wires of the 5606 are made of single-conductor enameled copper wire, which prevents moisture from wicking to the sensing element as it would if a more common, stranded lead wire were used. The diameter of the lead wire is no greater than 0.2 mm, making it easy to run lead wires through a freezer door to a readout or transmitter with effectively zero energy loss. The 5606 has been proven in common heat transfer fluids such as silicone oil, mineral oil, ethanol, and even liquid nitrogen with no degradation of the transition junction seal or lead wire insulation.

The 5607 has been designed specifically for performing calibrations or verifying the accuracy of sensors used in ovens or furnaces. Intended to be used in dry mediums only, the 5607 can be fully immersed in dry mediums over a temperature range of 0 °C to 450 °C. There isn’t another PRT on the market that can be fully immersed over this range and remain as stable and accurate (± 0.05 °C). The lead wire of the 5607 is shielded with braided stainless steel and connected to the transition junction with a strain relief spring.

The Hart Scientific 5606 Full Immersion PRT has a U.S. list price of $385; the 5607 Full Immersion PRT has a U.S. list price of $465. USB to RS232 Cable Adapter, FlukeView Forms Basic, and increased three-year warranty offered at no additional charge

EVERETT, Wash. – Fluke Corporation, a global leader in test and measurement technology, today announced enhancements to its bench digital multimeters. The Fluke 8808A 5.5 digit Digital Multimeter and the 8845A/8846A 6.5 digit multimeters will now include a USB to RS232 Cable Adapter as well as FlukeView Forms Basic software. In addition, Fluke has increased the warranty period on these meters to three years.

The USB to RS232 Cable Adapter converts the RS-232 serial port on the 8808A, 8846A or 8845A to a USB, allowing users to connect their multimeter to a PC USB port.

FlukeView Forms software increases the power of Fluke bench multimeters by enabling users to document, store and analyze individual readings or series of measurements, then convert them into professional-looking documents. FlukeView Forms Basic can be used alone to download measurement data and create reports that can be saved and printed. An optional version of the software, FlukeView Forms plus Designer, allows a user to edit an existing form or create a new form to customize the report to individual needs. A common edit might add a company logo and title.

These enhancements will be available at the existing US list prices for the meters:  $1395 for the Fluke 8846A, $995 for the Fluke 8845A and $775 for the Fluke 8808A. For more information on the Fluke 8845A and 8846A Precision Digital Multimeters, visit www.fluke.com, or contact Fluke Corporation, PO Box 9090, Everett, WA USA 98206, call (888) 308-5277, fax (425) 446-5116, or e-mail fluke-info@fluke.com.
